A Mini Holiday

Standard

Last weekend we sadly bid farewell to Rachel who had come to the end of her 5 weeks in Uganda. We were so blessed to have her with us for the beginning of our stay here. She certainly helped us with settling in and getting used to the new culture, not to mention the fun of having a friend with us!

As the airport is a good 2 hour drive from Matugga, and potentially longer if traffic is bad, we decided it was safer to go to Entebbe the night before so that we were right by the airport for her flight the next day. Two weeks ago, Ivan went to the UK and arrived at the airport 45 min before the flight! Needless to say Rachel wasn’t keen on the stress of that for leaving herself! So we enjoyed a last dinner together on the shore of Lake Victoria, having fish caught at the same spot that we ate it – beautifully fresh and well cooked and a glass of wine!

The next morning was rather wet, but we didn’t mind too much and it cleared up in time for us to go to the zoo before Rachel’s flight and get a taste of wild Africa! We had our first experience of being charged more for being foreigners, and for taking in a camera!

Chris and I stayed in Entebbe that night as well, making the most of hot showers and free wifi before returning to Matugga.
